Back for more tests!

Payton and Illa.

Payton getting his GFR (Kidney function test.)

I woke Payton up this morning and he immediately said “no Dr. Bowman today”. He is so smart with all this, he knows if I wake him up where we are heading. As we walked into the hospital, we passed a child life specialists which she stopped and said hi to Payton. Payton told her “No ouwies today, no doctors, doctors are eee, eee and they need to go to the naughty spot”. I had to laugh and he continued to say this down the hall. We finally made it to radiology after being 15 minutes late. After getting checked in we ran into Payton’s little friend Illa. Chad and I have really gotten to know her family and they are great. I was glad I had my camera, so I could get a picture of her and Payton together. Illa had neuroblastoma and just finished with her chemo and is about to undergo radiation treatment.
Payton had to get his port accessed and a peripheral IV. I was amazed at how brave he was, he had tears streaming down his face, but sat up so brave. I have really been praying that they only have to access Payton’s port once. I know that this is just something simple, but it is so traumatic if they can’t do it the first time. We have lucked out lately and haven’t had any problems. Chad showed up just before we started Payton’s GFR, I think he knows how bad I hate that test, since it upsets Payton. He was especially brave today, since usually he screams. It’s not much fun, when they strap and tie him down to the table and have a big machine over him. I can only imagine how scary that must feel. When we left radiology Payton ran down the hall saying “bye, bye”. We went over to the clinic where Payton had his cbc, blood draw for the GFR and his outpatient chemo. He was so exhausted that he fell asleep him my arms. Dr. Bowman came in. I just love that guy so much. I have such great respect for him and feel so lucky and blessed to have him as our Oncologist. He talked about how close we are to the end of all this. Payton has done a great job. What a wonderful feeling it will be to finish his treatment.
Payton starts his next big round on Wednesday. This is a five day round, so we will be in the hospital until Sunday. Dr. Bowman let us start it a day later, since Savannah’s Birthday is on Tuesday. I can hardly believe that she will be turning “7”. She is growing up way to fast. This past year has been such a blur. Wish we could have a big party for her, but it’s just not the year.

It is so sweet and sad that he says that the doctor needs to go to the 'naughty spot!' I am sure that it is frustrating to have to explain these necessary evils to your sweet little boy.

I love that he was running down the hall yelling 'bye-bye!' Kids are so resilient!

You all continue to be in our prayers always. Love to your whole family.
